Teaching and Research Assistantships

B. Wilkinson Dec. 17, 2010

Course load.

The miniumum course load should be specifed in the individual letter of appointment and the following is only for general guidance. You are advised to consult your assistantship supervisor.

In general, the minimum course load for an assistantship is 6 credit hours (http://graduateschool.uncc.edu/faq.html), unless other factors such as funding source dictate a higher course load.  (For example PhD GASP students are required to take 9 credit hours.) Also international students may be required to take a minimum full load of 9 hours.  Consult the international office on that.

Generally in the final semester (the semester you intent to graduate), you only need to take the number of hours necessary to graduate, but the number of hours should reflect your use of university resources (generally 3 or more graduate credit hours).
