1.
Who is my academic adviser?
Each student is assigned an academic adviser. The name is
given
at the bottom of the admittance letter next to the graduate
coordinator's name (B. Wilkinson).
Typically, if you take on an MS thesis, your adviser would be
changed to your thesis advisor.
To change your adviser, first contact the new adviser to get their
approval. Then, contact the graduate coordinator.

2. I am unable to register because of an academic
flag
is set. What shall I do?
Contact your academic adviser to discuss your courses. Your
adviser will
lift the flag once he/she is satisfied with your course selection.

3. I get the
error message
"Pre-Req and/or Test Score Error"
when trying to register:
This indicates that the registration system cannot confirm that your
have the prequisites for the course. It often happens for students that
did the prequisites not at UNCC. Contact
the instructor of the course to allow you to
register (not the graduate coordinator as he cannot provide you with
authority).

to register for an ITIS course and get the error "Program Restriction".
Email Dr. David Wilson (davils@uncc.edu), the Graduate Coordinator in
the Software and
Information Systems Department. He will place you on a list and issue
permissions according to the policies of the SIS department.

5. What will
the tuition fees be?
All questions on fees in your specific circumstance should be directed
to the Registrar's office.

6. I
am an international student and want to take less than a full load
(< 9 hrs). What approval do I need?
All questions on your conditions and status as an international student
should be directed to the international office. Our special
request form is NOT used to request taking less than a full load.
The international office has a form called
"Authorization
for Reduced Courseload" but see http://coitweb.uncc.edu/~abw/MSprogram/gradExtension.html

7.
How many classes should I take?
A full course load is four classes (12 hours) and a
minimum for full time status is three courses (9 hrs).
In your first semester, it might be that one would
take three courses (9 hours) but this is your decision. You
should always consult your advisor. One strategy is to take three
classes in your first semester, four classes in your second semester,
and three in your final semester. For planning, you should look
at the
rotation
schedule to ensure that you can get the classes you want.

8. What classes should I take first?
You do not have to take the core subjects first. A possible plan
would be to take one core subject and
two courses in different breadth areas in your first semester, but this
is your decision. You have wide latitude on
what courses you take but they must fit in on the degree
checksheet. As always, you should consult your advisor. Check
prequisites of classes you want to take and plan accordingly.
